Jean-Philippe Cointet
I design original methods of modeling digital traces to map public space and its dynamics.
Researcher
Professor of Sociology and director of the Open Institute for Digital Transformations at Sciences Po, Jean-Philippe specializes in developing computational methods for the social sciences and humanities. His main fields of interest are computational linguistics and network science. He has long worked on mapping research communities through the analysis of bibliometric data, and later on the dynamics of the circulation of scientific knowledge and its contestation on social media platforms. More recently, he has been analyzing the structure of the digital public space through various empirical case studies on misinformation, polarization, or collective mobilization. His latest research projects explore the role that conversational agents can play in participatory systems.
