Promesses de démocratisation dans les récits médiatiques de l’IA générative

Media attention on artificial intelligence (AI) has intensified significantly with the rise of generative models. The deployment of these technologies has been associated with a promise of democratisation promoted by major digital corporations—understood as broader access and easier use of AI technologies for the general public. However, this version of democratisation, based on user testing and experimentation with these tools, raises critical concerns about its potential to undermine efforts aimed to foster a more participatory and democratic governance of AI. This article examines media narratives constructed around generative AI. These narratives reflect a fundamental tension between individual experimentation and collective governance and contribute to the emergence of an intermediate path that empowers individuals and communities to control the shape and impact of these technologies. This process involves transforming individual experiences of AI interactions into public issues, thereby enabling stories of failure and success to inform a collective reflection on the consequences and regulation of AI.
