Léone-Alix Mazaud

I investigate the city's production tools and experiment with the sound dimension of urban experiences.

Associate PhD student

Léone-Alix Mazaud is a designer, doctoral student at the Centre de Sociologie de l'Innovation (CSI, Mines Paris, Université PSL) and head of research projects at the architecture and urban planning agency PCA-Stream.

At the crossroads of science and technology studies (STS) and design research, her work focuses on the data and tools used in urban and regional production. Her thesis, entitled ‘Composer avec la biodiversité : les opérateurs de sensibilité au vivant autre qu’humain dans le projet urbain et architectural’, explores the relationships maintained with the rest of the living world in relation to the way in which built environments are designed. It analyses tools (indicators, labels, modelling tools) based on scientific ecology and designed to integrate non-human entities into urban production practices. By closely documenting the way they are put together and, in some cases, the time taken to develop them, the thesis describes the way in which they shape and perpetuate these relationships, contributing to the composition of multi-species urban worlds through both cognitive and aesthetic means. Through design experiments combining visual, computational and sonic approaches, Léone experiments with alternative ways of cultivating sensitivity to urban life in all its diversity, through the sensitive shaping of knowledge to provide a basis for action.

She holds a master's degree in Territorial and Urban Strategies from Sciences Po and a specialised master's degree from ENSCI - Les Ateliers. Prior to that, she worked for 5 years as a consultant on sustainable city issues and the use of territorial data, in particular to develop territorial environmental strategies.
