Fabiola Fenili is a PhD candidate in public communication at the University of Urbino and a visiting researcher at the médialab Sciences Po.

Drawing on ethnographic methods and Science and Technology Studies (STS), she studies how public institutions use virtual assistants to interact with citizens, how access to information is mediated through these systems, and how public employees engage with LLMs in their everyday work, reconfiguring relations and shaping organizational practices. She has conducted case studies on chatbots in Italian municipalities, including a year-long embedded ethnographic study within a single municipality, focusing on organizational processes, content management, and their socio-technical implications.

Her research also engage with the responsible adoption of AI in the public sector and related policy-making processes.

She is a member of the Artificial Intelligence Multidisciplinary Research Center (AIM) at the University of Urbino and she was an Italian language instructor at the University of Exeter (UK).

At the médialab, she is a research assistant on the project Ecologies of LLM Practices.
