Emma Gauthier is an associate researcher at the médialab. In 2025, she completed a PhD thesis in digital sociology entitled "« Je n'avais pas conscience d'être une meuf avant d'être sur internet » Une enquête qualitative et quantitative sur les inégalités de genre dans l’accès à la visibilité sur YouTube". This thesis, carried out at Gustave Eiffel University, was supervised by Sylvain Parasie (Sciences Po) et Bilel Benbouzid (Gustave Eiffel) and was awarded an honourable mention at the 2025 INAtèque Awards. Using mixed-methods research, this study analyses the socio-technical barriers that disadvantage female content creators on platforms, ranging from algorithms and the professional world to audiences.
She is now researching the use of generative AI in content production on digital platforms, with a particular focus on how this reshapes the authenticity of content creators.
