Luca Giuffrè is a Ph.D. Candidate in Sociology and Methodology of Social Research, a joint doctoral program between the University of Milan and the University of Turin. Under the supervision of Prof. Massimo Airoldi, his research explores how teenagers navigate social media and algorithmic environments in their everyday lives. Through a multimethod approach, he investigates the routines, logics, and practices young users employ to make sense of platform experiences—ultimately advancing a novel theorization of digital literacy in practice. His work contributes to debates in media research, youth studies, and the sociology of education.
As a visiting Ph.D. student at the médialab, Luca is developing an analytical framework to examine collective practices on TikTok. Drawing on a dataset of comments from videos popular among adolescents, he combines word embedding techniques with dependency parsing to uncover how gender and content categories shape text-based interactions on the platform.
