Duncan studies opinion dynamics in social systems with a focus on the role of group identity and its impact on perception of others. He is a PhD student registered at the Computer Science department (LIP6) at Sorbonne Université, splitting his time between there, the médialab, and LPI Université Paris Cité. In his thesis he covers group identity as a factor in opinion polarization, extending models to deal with large populations, and applying them to empirical social media datasets. Prior to beginning his PhD, he obtained a First-Class Masters in Engineering Mathematics from the University of Bristol and worked on editorial strategy as a Senior Data Analyst at The Guardian.
