Under the influence of digital technology, cities and territories are engaged in a process of transformation whose radicality and effects are still poorly understood. In less than a decade, new players have emerged, disrupting established sectors. Data have become major strategic resources and algorithms in public policy instruments that are too often opaque.

This seminar, organized on the occasion of the publication of the book Gouverner la ville numérique (PUF, 2019), aims to examine the changes in urban governance at work with digital technology. In contrast to a uniform vision of the smart city and on the basis of empirical surveys, the speakers analyse the different ways in which digital technologies are deployed and regulated in different territories and their political-institutional environments.
