Event, MetSem seminar

Appartement du médialab, 1 Place Saint Thomas d'Aquin, 75007 Paris

The 50th MetSem session will take place on Thursday, June 19, 2025, starting at 2.30pm. We welcome Peter Schmidt for a session presenting the podcast Code for Thought.

Session introduction

Applications, software libraries and other digital tools have become indispensable in research. At the same time, the work of software engineers in research remains underappreciated and sometimes unknown. In 2012, a small team of researchers launched the Research Software Engineering (RSE) movement in the UK, supported by the Software Sustainability Institute (SSI) in the UK. The aim of the movement and of the Society of Research Software Engineering (founded in 2019) is to highlight the importance of software development in science. Within this framework, the Code for Thought podcast was created four years ago to popularize and promote the digital and scientific project. The presentation summarizes the podcast's history, explains how it works and why it's essential to make our work known to everyone. Some experiences of production, feedback and upcoming news will then be shared.
