Concevoir les limites numériques

Nolwenn Maudet (University of Strasbourg) will be the guest of the médialab seminar on June 30, 2026. She will present her work on the environmental footprint of digital technology, focusing on the role of digital design.

Event, Research Seminar

Salle K.008, 1 Place St-Thomas d'Aquin, 75007 Paris

Abstract

The environmental impacts of digital technology are now increasingly well-documented, and the outlook is alarming. However, the role that digital design choices play in amplifying these impacts remains largely unexplored. In this presentation, I will discuss several complementary studies conducted by the “Limites Numériques” research collective aimed at identifying and characterizing the mechanisms through which current practices in the design of digital products and services contribute to increased usage, software obsolescence, and, ultimately, the growth of indirect environmental impacts.
