The médialab at Sciences Po is an interdisciplinary laboratory gathering researchers in social sciences, computer science, design, and engineering. The European Polarisation Observatory (EPO) is a joint initiative founded by Sciences Po, Bocconi University in Milan, the London School of Economics, Hertie School, SNSPA Romania, and the Central European University in Vienna. The goal of EPO is to develop and disseminate studies in political dynamics in social media across Europe and the world. We aim to show the broader public how politics unfold in social media and in AI systems through web visualizations. We study elections around the world as seen from the web and social media.

Some of the tasks that the hired person will perform include:

  • Developing a User Interface to explore and filter large datasets;
  • Building an interactive 3D scatter visualisation using Ploty.js;
  • Designing and developing APIs and SQL data pipelines to store data in a web-ready format;
  • Developing a React front-end features for data visualisation;
  • Integrating the application into a WordPress environment.

Profile

We are looking to hire a profile with development expertise and interested in working on a social media big data visualization project. Some of the skills and interests we are looking for candidates:

  • Proficient in TypeScript;
  • Good bases in back end (API / Authorisation / Data bases);
  • Autonomy to propose and justify architectures;
  • Bonus: experience in data visualization in data science projects.
