I study multilingual hate speech against Indian Muslims online

Research Assistant

Pearl works on multilingual interactions on YouTube in the context of Muslims in India, wherein she explores the apparent polarisation around the topic of religion and what role the different languages play in reproducing patterns of hate speech. She is interested in Politics of Language, Conversation Analysis, birth and dissemination of hate speech and History and Politics of South Asia. 

Pearl has a MA in Human Rights and Humanitarian Action from PSIA, SciencesPo and BA (Hons.) in History from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University. She will be working on ‘SHAM: Socialising Hatred Against Muslims’ which studies the representation of Muslims in Print Press media.
